HAPPY 2017! RECAP OF 2016!

My latest album is called “A New Day,” and most of you know why…

And today is a new day, the first day of a brand new year. I wanted to take some time today, to review last year, and share the things I look forward to this year. In 2016, I did some exciting things, and even marked off one of the things on my bucket list.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

– With my Blue South Band, we helped Gary Anton celebrate his birthday, along with mine, at Bradfordville Blues Club. If you haven’t been there yet, and you’re a true blues lover, you absolutely have to check it out. It’s one of the coolest venues I’ve EVER been in, and once you get a taste of the vibe there, you’ll want to keep going back.

– I spent some time in Nashville, which I hadn’t done in a while, had several co-writing sessions, and even performed in a writers round at the Commodore Club, hosted by Debi Champion. It was great to see and hear old friends, JC Ward, and Diane Gentes! It brought back a lot of memories from the old Bogie’s and Broken Spoke days.

– I performed at more house concerts, and I just have to say that I REALLY enjoy doing that kind of a show. It’s an intimate listening room environment, and I can practically reach out and touch my audience from the stage. I love the feeling of being so close to the fans, and they seem to enjoy the up-close-and-personal concerts.

– I did another singer/songwriter night with my longtime friend, Becky Hobbs, and Lucy Billings, at the Renaissance Arts Center Theatre in Kingsport. There’s something so comfortable about sharing the stage with friends and hearing them sing their own songs. I had the best seat in the house!

– And my friend, Michael Buffalo Smith invited me to do another writers round with Sonny Moorman and Russell Gulley, for a benefit for The Big House Museum. That was a fun afternoon, too, and it was for a good cause!

– One of the most exciting writers shows that I did was in my own hometown of Dublin, Georgia! I was part of the launching of a new songwriters series for ExploreGeorgia.org, celebrating “The Year of Georgia Music.” Levi Lowrey and Greg Hester joined me at the Historic Carnegie Library, and we sang our original songs for my hometown fans. Thanks to Lisa Love and Jody Jackson for putting that show together, and inviting me to be a part of it!

– I also did some shows up in Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Mississippi. From a concert in an apple orchard, to clubs, to house concerts, to a membership kickoff event for Marcia Adams and her new Indy Blues Society, to a chapel concert series, to a theater, a museum, and a yacht club, to festivals, to private parties, to a coffee house, I had a great year! I love performing for old and new fans alike, and I’m excited about some things we’re working on for this year. We’ve got some different things on the horizon, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

– And last year I did something I haven’t done in 20 years or more – I took a vacation, and went to Wyoming to take pictures!! I hope to knock a few more things off my bucket list this year. Stay tuned!

– Last year set a record for my photography sales! And I won more ribbons, too! I’m so thrilled that y’all like my pictures, and I’ve added some new ones to my photography page. Take a look and see what you think. And if you don’t see what you want there, that doesn’t mean that I’m sold out. I just like to change them up every so often. http://www.EGKightPhotography.com

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Coming up this year, I want you all to be watching out for the movie, “Collar,” too. Five of my songs are in it! I’ve seen a sneak preview of it, and it’s a well-written movie, and you’ll recognize some of the actors – Tom Sizemore, Rebecca DeMornay, Richard Roundtree, and David Patrick Wilson. When it comes out in theaters, be sure to go see it, and let me know what you think! Here’s a link to a brief video snippet of my songs in the movie.

.
As you can see, it was an incredibly busy year. This year I’ll be at home for a bit, working on a few secret projects. I’ll let you know when they’re almost ready to announce.

And I’ve booked some very cool gigs already, including the Edmonton Blues Festival. I’m excited about some things I’ll be doing, and we’re entertaining other offers, too. Keep an eye on my tour dates page for all the latest.

I’ll be at the IBC in Memphis next month! Who else is going?!? I hope to see you there!

And stay tuned for news on baby goats. I have six pregnant mamas, and expect to have babies any day now! Brownie’s about to pop!

May this be the first day of the best year of your life!

Love,
EG

“15 Best Albums” list, New Year’s Eve party, free download, CD sale, songs in a new movie!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you’re all getting into the Christmas spirit! “Kindness” is the word for the season. If things seem overwhelming, just smile. I don’t think the good Lord intended for us to get stressed around his birthday. Let’s just slow down and breathe, and remember that a smile goes a long way, and sometimes that’s all someone needs.

I just got the latest issue of Kudzoo magazine, and it made me smile from ear to ear! Not only was my “A New Day” album reviewed in it, but it also made the “15 Best Albums that made 2015 memorable” list! How awesome is that?!? You can read all about it here. http://www.kudzoomag.com

I’ve been one busy Songbird the last half of this year. I’ve traveled to South Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Connecticut, Kentucky, California, Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and back to Georgia, performing in a park, on a porch, at a festival, on the street, in a listening room, at house concerts, at an apple orchard, in a chapel, in clubs, and a theater. I love pickin’ and grinnin’ and I’ll make music anywhere!

It’s been great catching up with old friends and making new ones. That’s one of the perks of the music business.  I’ve been so blessed to meet so many wonderful people through the years playing my music, and some end up becoming dear friends.

I do a lot of solo shows, but I’m always thrilled to get to share the stage with the amazingly talented members of my Blue South Band. We performed a short set together at the Skydog 69 annual benefit concert honoring the legacy of Duane Allman. It’s always held around his birthday and the admission is cans of food which go to the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia. I was so honored to be part of it, and it was great being with my band!

I also shared the stage with the young guys of the Dirty Uncle Bob band at GABBAfest, the Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association’s annual event. It’s great to see these young players appreciating great music! Here’s a video of us doing “Southbound.”

A couple of months ago I got a request for some of my songs for an upcoming movie starring Rebecca DeMornay, Tom Sizemore, Richard Roundtree, and David Patrick Wilson! And they selected five of them, including a couple that I co-wrote with Tom Horner! I’ll keep you posted as things develop!

In November I had four baby goats born. One of them, “Jazz” was shunned by his mama, but he now has a wonderful new home, and is at a goat “palace.”  He’s being pampered so much that I’m thinking we should call him “Prince Jazz.”  The other new babies are Cotton Top, Honey Boy, and Buttercup. They’re so cute, and they’re such great stress relievers. Everyone should have a pet goat! You can see all the latest pictures of my babies on the GOAT REPORT page. Here’s one of Buttercup curled up in a feed bowl.

I’m getting geared up for the holidays, and looking back over an amazing year. I’ve been a lot of places, and done a lot of things. And I’m excited to now be raising awareness for the Johns Hopkins Encephalitis Center. They are on the cutting edge of research and education, and my hope is that one day people like me will get the right diagnosis, and the best possible care, with no lingering effects. Read all about it on the ENCEPHALITIS page.

I’ll be performing on New Year’s Eve in Chattanooga at the Tropicana Room, and we’re gonna have a large time! Get your tickets on my Tour Dates page. Come on out and let’s bring in 2016 together!

We have some more upcoming dates in the works, and as soon as we can, we’ll post the on my site. So keep checking my schedule.  You never know when I might show up in your neck of the woods!

And one final thing… We’ve got a few of my older CD’s left in the warehouse, so we’ve got all of them on sale now through the end of January. I’ve got to clear some out to make room for a new one! I’ll be working on it in 2016, and I’m excited about another new venture. Get a free download of “Holdin’ On,” and get some CD’s for your collection, and to give to your friends at http://www.EGKightMusic.com/music!

Happy New Year! 2014 recap – Top 5 Best Blues Artists, the new “Goat Report,” a cookbook, Robert Johnson book, Koko Taylor award voting, “A New Day” reviews, and new songs!

2015 gold banner -2Happy New Year everyone!

I hope that this year has started out good for you, and that it will be the best year ever!

As I’m writing this, I’m thinking about all the good stuff that happened in 2014. Here’s a recap of some of the highlights of my year!

  • One of my photos got chosen to be on the cover of a book by James Nuttall about Robert Johnson, and I got a copy in the mail last week. I’m so tickled about that! It’s only available for kindle right now, and you can get your copy at http://www.amazon.com/Preaching-Blues-Times-Robert-Johnson/dp/1505627672
  • Several of my mama goats had some baby goats born on Christmas Eve, and they are beautiful! And Sippie’s doing good, and her baby Sip is enjoying his new home and family.
  • I was nominated for a Blues Music Award – the Koko Taylor Award! Voting is open to all members of the Blues Foundation. If you’re not a member yet, you can easily join on their website. http://www.blues.org/membership/individual-membership. Then you can vote up till March 2nd.
  • Some of my photographs won some first and second place ribbons at the Georgia National Fair.
  • I helped produce an album for Lisa Biales, which was nominated for a Blues Blast Award for “Acoustic Album of the Year.”
  • My new album came out in September. “A New Day” is getting lots of airplay, and it’s still getting great reviews!
  • Several of my recipes were included in the Blues Foundation’s “Cooking with HART” cookbook. You can buy it at http://www.shopbluesfoundation.org/cooking-with-hart, and all the proceeds go to the HART fund.
  • Because I was on Vinny Bond Marini’s “Music On The Couch” program, I now have a chance to be featured in his 2016 calendar, for the month of September. And YOU can vote at http://www.musiconthecouch.com/#!calendar-contest/c1uk4.
  • I performed at clubs, festivals, and theaters, several in new areas; did a couple of Blues in the Schools events; performed for more private events; did quite a few solo shows, got to do some shows with my incredible Blue South Band, and I joined Lisa Biales for several Peach Pickin’ Mamas shows. It was a GREAT year on the road!
  • A song I wrote with Tom Horner and Sunny Stephens aired on “The Fosters” on ABC Family.
  • I ended up in the top 5 “Best Blues Artists of 2014″! I’m in good company with Joe Bonamassa, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gary Clark Jr., and Eric Bibb. Read more about it here. http://www.axs.com/best-blues-artists-of-2014-35943.

I had a good Christmas and New Year’s Eve, takin’ it easy at home with family, friends and my pets. I’m so enjoying watching the baby goats jumping and running. They’re a sight to see. I’ve got a new page on my website dedicated to my goats, so you can check back regularly. Just click on the “Goat Report!”

I’m gearing up for my birthday on January 17th. My Blue South Band and I will be performing at one of our all-time favorite venues, the Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee, Florida. Come one, come all! We’ll have a ball!

It’s time to start thinking about my next album, so I need to write some new songs. I’ll be busy at home writing for a while. I’ll be around Georgia and Tennessee this month, but I hope to see you down the road in the coming months. Keep an eye on my schedule, because we’ll be adding some more tour dates as we get them contracted.

I sure appreciate ALL of you! You mean the world to me.

Keep a song in your heart!

BMA Koko Taylor Award nomination, Robert Johnson book, A New Day, Bradenton, and The Crimson Moon!

I hope you’re having a holly, jolly Christmas! Remember to be kind to one another and have patience. Try to enjoy each day and remember what we’re celebrating here, a birthday party for someone very special, Jesus.

My new CD “A New Day” is still getting quite a bit of airplay and lots of positive reviews. It’s what I call my “miracle album.” You can hear several of the songs, and read my story about it here. http://www.EGKightMusic.com/egs-story

And if you don’t have a copy yet, you can order it here. http://www.EGKightMusic.com/music And I’d be glad to autograph it for you. Just let me know how many you want, and who you want me to autograph it to!

I just found out last week that I’ve been nominated for another Blues Music Award – the Koko Taylor Award!  (formerly called the Traditional Blues Female award)  Now for anybody who knows me, you know that there isn’t an award out there that would mean more to me. After all, I wouldn’t be writing and singing the blues if it wasn’t for Koko. When I read the nominations, I had tears running down my face. It was a great start to this wonderful holiday season for me.

The award show will be held in Memphis on May 7th. In order to vote, you must be a member of the Blues Foundation. This is a wonderful organization that supports musicians, fans, musicians in need, and so many other things. If you’d like to be a part of it, you can join by clicking here. http://www.shopbluesfoundation.org/select-your-membership/

I got word this past weekend that the book about Robert Johnson that has my photograph as the cover will be available online soon. It’s called “Preaching Blues” by James Nuttall. I’ll let you know when it’s ready to purchase!

I’ve been busy traveling around doing what I love best, making music. My Blue South Band and I just played the Bradenton Blues Festival in Florida and did we ever have a large time! Lisa Biales sat in with us, too, and we had a ball! I love it when I’m surrounded by my friends on stage! I also did a “Blues In The Schools” program with a new friend, Dave Muskett. It was a rewarding experience and I hope the young people learned some things about the blues and music in general. There’s so much more to it than just performing.

EG and Lisa at Bradenton - by ChefJimi(EG and Lisa Biales – photo by Chefjimi)

A few weeks ago, I traveled once again to Valparaiso, Indiana and then on to Allegan, Michigan where I was joined on stage by Greg Nagy, who recorded a duet with me on my latest album. Here’s a video of us together at the Griswold Auditorium performing “When Something is Wrong with My Baby.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NabuY6YwSBQ

Another friend, Ellen Altamore, joined me on stage at the Griswold too. She is a Sign Language Interpreter, and she signed to my song “Through the Eyes of a Child.” It was a heartwarming performance, and here’s a video of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG0zwANY81s

It’s always fun to go to new places and meet up with old and new friends, and I can’t wait to head back up that way.

And just before that trip I was closer to home in Georgia, at Dalton State College, at Steve’s Live Music in Sandy Springs, and at Darwin’s in Marietta. I sure do enjoy my work, if you can call it that!

Tomorrow I’ll be playing my last show of the year at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega, Georgia. I always try to play there during the Christmas season. They have the whole town square all dressed up in Christmas lights. It’s something to see! I hope to see you there!

Crimson Moon logo

I’ll be around home the rest of the year. Some of my goats are expecting babies and I need to be home for that. I’ll keep you up to date on the babies.

Again, I hope you enjoy your family, friends, pets, and music during this holiday season. We’re working on some dates for 2015, and we’ll post them as soon as they’re confirmed. I look forward to seeing you next year!

Until then, keep a song in your heart!

A New Day is coming! A New Day is coming! And CD release parties are comin’ too!

Hey Everybody!

I’m so excited because I now have my new CDA NEW DAY – in my hot little hands! We’ve sent it out to radio, and the media are getting their copies as well. It will be released nationally on September 16th, and it’s already getting some great reviews!  You can read some of them under the REVIEWS tab above.
EG holding new album A NEW DAY

While I was in Nashville recently, I got to do something I’ve never done there before – sightseeing! I sure enjoyed soaking up so many areas of the city. And I took this photo from the pedestrian bridge. I sure love Nashville!

During that trip I also got to meet the artist who designed my last two album covers. I was thrilled to meet Cara Schneider, and she was just as genuinely sweet in person as she has been on the phone every time I’ve talked to her. Cara is the Art Director for the Nashville Opera, and she’s an incredibly inspiring designer. I’m so glad we got to visit and have some tea. Here’s a photo of us in her front yard.

I have some CD release parties coming up, and we’re gonna celebrate in a big way! We’ve confirmed one in Macon, GA on September 19th, one in Chattanooga, TN on October 4th and a couple in Ohio later on in October. Just keep an eye on my TOUR DATES, because we keep adding more!

My band and I tried some of the new songs out a few weeks ago in Tallahassee and they went over great.  The crowd seemed to love them. That sure makes a songwriter feel good. Our first set was live on the internet from Bradfordville Blues Club, and it was awesome!

And speaking of my band, we’ve FINALLY come up with the perfect name for these guys, who are like my brothers. They are now called the BLUE SOUTH BAND! We’ll be adding their photos and bios to my website, so you can know more about these amazingly talented players. I’d be lost without them, and I want you all to show ‘em some love the next time you see them! Check back soon to read their stories…

And while we were on stage at Bradfordville, we were being filmed to be part of a tourism video for Tallahassee. I think it turned out GREAT! See what you think. You’ll see us at the 2:13 markhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kguaD_P-Fts&list=UUDlZa0hPoPD3gjwRZrv9A6Q

You all know how I love to take pictures! I’ve taken some new ones recently, too, and I’ve updated my photography page.  Check it out at www.egkightphotography.com and let me know what you think.

I drove up to Hobart, IN near the end of July, and had the time of my life! It was a corporate event, for the owners of an oil company, and an apple orchard, among other businesses. I got to perform inside a huge barn, and the people I was entertaining were some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! They even took me on a golf cart tour of the apple orchard, and I sure wish my mama could have been with me. She loves apples! I so enjoyed spending the afternoon with the Luke Oil folks, and I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality. I look forward to coming back your way one day soon. Thanks to Dana, and Tom, Sr., and Ryan, and everyone else who made this event such fun!

I so appreciate all of you, and love the connection I have with you at my shows. You make me want to continue to grow as an artist, and to make people smile. Thanks for giving me the positive energy I need!

You can pre-order my album now on my website, iTunes, and CD Baby, so you have a lot of choices! I can’t wait for you to hear it! Just click on the MUSIC tab above.

I’ll be in the north Georgia Mountains this Saturday, at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega. Then I have shows coming up in Indiana with Lisa Biales as the Peach Pickin’ Mamas, in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee with my Blue South Band, and as a solo in Ohio.

Keep an eye on my schedule, and I’ll be looking for you!  Until then, keep a song in your heart!

Billtown, Black Strat Blues, Lisa Biales nomination, my new CD is finished, and CD release parties!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Summer! Yea, it’s hot in Georgia. How is it where you are? I hope you had a good time on the 4th of July. What a great country we live in. We’re so lucky.

I had a wonderful time in Williamsport, Pennsylvania last month. Billtown Blues is one of my favorite festivals! I had a reunion with my northern band – Jeremy Jaffe, Tim Hooper, Sean Farley and Andy Seal – and they rocked it on stage at the festival. And my trip was made so much easier because of Roadie Jim Boose, and all of his hard work road managing. Thanks to all the guys!

At the festival I also got a chance to sing with a young teen band, The Black Strat Blues Company. It does my heart good to see young people playing music, especially when it’s the Blues. There are some great young players out there.

Black_Strat_Blues_Company(with Black Strat Blues Company at Billtown)

I’m proud to announce that the album Paul Hornsby and I produced this past year for Lisa Biales has been nominated for a Blues Blast Award! “Belle of the Blues” is up for Acoustic Album of the Year! We’re all so excited about it, and Lisa will be singing at the awards show. You can vote here: http://www.bluesblastmagazine.com/bbmas/vote/

And more good news! I couldn’t wait to tell you that I’m finished with the new CD! The title is “A New Day” and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. I have some CD release parties coming up, so keep an eye on my schedule. We’re adding dates all the time, and we’ve got offers coming in left and right. I hope to see YOU in your city soon!

This Friday I’m at the Museum of Art in Knoxville with my band, then next week I’m performing solo for a private corporate team building event in Hobart, Indiana. On August 2nd my band and I return for a CD release party in Tallahassee at Bradfordville Blues Club. Then my boys and I will head to Port Royal, South Carolina for a Music in the Streets concert series. And in September, I’ll be doing a duo with Lisa Biales, as the “Peach Pickin’ Mamas” at Pruis Hall at Ball State University. I’ve got lots going on and it’s all good!

Whether it’s solo, with Lisa as a duo, or with my band, I love performing on stage! And I’m so grateful to all the fans who keep buying tickets and coming to the shows. Ellen Altamore even drove all the way from Michigan to see me at Billtown in Pennsylvania! And for every one of you who buys my CD’s, and emails me and sends me messages on facebook – your thoughts and encouragement, and your sweet comments keep me going!

Another great BMA show, just finished up in the studio, my new camera, Billtown this weekend!

Hello Everybody!

I just wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on with the Songbird. I attended the Blues Music Awards in Memphis and as always, I had a natural ball. I got to be part of the VizzTone jam at the Rum Boogie on Beale, and talk about a good time! It was happening there!  I got to jam with Bob Margolin, using Little G Weavil‘s amazing guitar. It was an awesome evening!

EG and Bob Margolin at Rum Boogie 050714

And then the next night, it was the Blues Awards night, and what an outstanding show! I’ve made so many friends by attending the Blues Awards every year and it’s always like a family reunion when we all get together. I met up with my “Peach Pickin’ Mamas” partner, Lisa Biales, and she and I did some radio spots. We did a fun interview with Jesse Finkelstein for Blues Radio International. I’ll let you know when that show will air.

Lisa’s CD is doing great and I was happy to introduce her to some of my friends in the industry. Here I am at the BMA’s with some of my favorite people – Lisa Biales, Reba Russell, and Teeny Tucker.

BMA's - Lisa, EG, Reba Russell, Teeny Tucker

I’ve been working hard on my upcoming album. My band helped with the arrangements on several of the songs and played their butts off in the studio. I’m so proud of the way they put so much of themselves into these songs. The creative juices were really flowing!

EG recording in the studio May 2014

Here’s my band after a session in the studio – Paul Hornsby/engineer and producer, Gary Porter/drums, Mike Harrell/piano and organ, Ken Wynn/guitar, and Johnny Fountain/bass.  I love these guys!

And here’s Gary and his wife, Rhonda Porter. They helped me with background vocals, and she’s my soul sister!

It looks like the new CD, entitled “A New Day,” will be officially released in September. But I’ll have a few CD release parties prior to the national release. There will be one in Knoxville on July 18th, one in Chattanooga on July 19th, and another in Tallahassee on August 2nd. We’re working on several more, and we’re also in the process of booking some mini-tours in other states. I may be coming to your town, so just keep an eye on my schedule to see what’s going on. We’ll post the dates as soon as they’re contracted.

This coming Sunday, I’ll be performing at the Billtown Blues Festival in Hughesville, Pennsylvania. I’ll be joined on stage by my Northern Band, some great guys I used to play with some years back. I can’t wait to see them again, and all of my friends in Pennsylvania!

The goats are doing fine and I get such comfort from them when I get stressed. Here’s Sippie and me, enjoying a moment together.

I’ve also been enjoying my new camera. Here are a couple of photos I’ve taken lately. Can you tell I’m lovin’ it?!

Well, it’s back to work on the new CD. I need to get my part of the cover finished so we can wrap this baby up!

I hope to see you along the way. Until then, keep a song in your heart!
