Snow and ice in middle Georgia?!? Live taping at the Barn! Studio time, and more!

Hey Everybody!

I hope 2014 is being good to you so far. We’ve had snow and ice in Middle Georgia! Yea, I said Georgia. We can go from single digit temperatures to the 70’s in the same week. I braved the cold and went out and took some pictures of the ice, but it was too cold to stay out there for too long!

After my last Chattanooga show, I spent some time in Nashville where I did some writing with Richard Fleming. He and I co-wrote several of my songs, including “Trouble,” “Peach Pickin’ Mama“, and several more. It had been quite a while since we were together but the chemistry was still there. We got two songs written in one afternoon!

Writing with Richard Fleming

Writing with Richard Fleming

This past Saturday, I was on the phone with another co-writer Tom Horner, and we got another new song written, too. This is one of my favorite things to do and I love writing with Richard and Tom. I’m planning on taking my band into the studio this week to record some of these new songs. Stay tuned…..

I received some good news about my photos last week. Two of them were chosen as some of the best of 2013 for Popular Photography Magazine. I have so much fun taking pictures, but I still have so much to learn. You can see my photos at this link. http://www.popphoto.com/gallery/2013-readers-contest-winners-gallery?i=381117&s=75

Next Saturday, February 15th, I’ll be back at The Barn at Crooked Pines in Eatonton, Georgia. I can’t wait to get back there. It’s actually a beautiful barn, the classiest one I’ve ever seen. I’ll be playing my solo show and I believe we’re going to record it. Who knows, a new “naked” album may come out of it. Come on down and be a part of the recording! I guarantee you’ll have a large time!

I have some more interesting dates coming up. Be sure to click on the Tour Dates tab above, and check them out. I want to see you! Until then, keep a song in your heart!

Still a kid at heart, my band was smokin’, Robert Johnson, and stocking stuffers!

Hi All,

I so hope you are having a wonderful holiday season. In the same week it was like summertime here in Georgia, but then it got cold. I enjoy this time of year so much. I guess I’m still a kid at heart.

I recently performed two solo shows in Chattanooga and it was so heartwarming to see old friends and meet several new ones. Chattanooga has been good to me and I just love playing there.

My amazing band and I recently traveled to Orlando and Lake Worth, Florida to put on some shows. Needless to say, we had a blast. Taking on a new keyboard player, Mike Harrell, has added so much to my band and has taken our show up a level. Man, oh man I had fun singing with these guys. I’m hoping to take them into the studio soon. Can’t wait!

I’m in Pine Mountain, Georgia this week to take some pictures. I have a new camera and I’m going to take some time to try and learn how to use it. Once I learn it, you better look out! I enjoy taking pictures almost as much as I enjoy my music and that’s saying a lot.

I did get some good news this week about my pictures. I found out that I got Honorable Mention in one contest and have been asked to use one of my photos for the cover of an upcoming book on the life and times of Robert Johnson! Oh, I’m so excited!

I’m playing a house concert this weekend in the Macon area and have a couple more coming up in January. If you’re interested in having one, don’t be afraid to ask. I love playing house concerts. I’ll also be in Dahlonega, Georgia on December 21st at the Crimson Moon Café. It’s a quant mountain town that is just beautiful, especially during the Christmas season. I hope you can come see the lights, and come to my show.

And if you need some stocking stuffers, don’t forget about my CD’s and pictures. I’ve got plenty of them!

We’ve changed the structure of my blog a bit, so now you can keep up with my schedule here. Just click on the “tour dates” tab at the top, and you’ll see all my dates. I’ve got some more tentative dates coming up, and as soon as we get them under contract, we’ll post them here. Keep checking back. And I hope to see you out on the road somewhere!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Let’s be kind to one another. You never know how just a smile can lighten someone’s day.

Until I see you, keep a song in your heart.

I flew a plane, toured in Georgia with a German band, and I’m headed back to Chattanooga!

Hey Everybody!

I just wanted to give you a quick update. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time for a full update, but I’m working on it. For now, here’s all the exciting news!

In the last month I’ve done an interview with NPR radio, I’ve performed for the Moccasin Flying Club, and got to fly a plane. I only flew it for 15 minutes by myself, but it was a life-changing experience!

I also toured in Georgia with my German touring band, Blue Alley. I’ve been to Germany and toured with them many times, but this year they came to the states, and we had a ball!

I’ve also started writing a couple of new songs. And I’ve also started a couple of chapters of my book, which will be all about my musical adventures, and my travels around the world. I’ll keep you posted on that as it comes along.

I’ll be in Chattanooga next week, performing for a private function for the Sister Cities Association. Then on Saturday, I’ll be back at the Tropicana Room, starting at 8 pm this time. We’ve had a lot of requests from the fans to start earlier, so we’re gonna do just that! Come out to see me, and I may play a little bit of my new songs for you!

Here’s the rest of my schedule for the next little bit. I can’t wait to see you. You’re the reason I keep traveling around, so I can bring my music to you!

Unique airport show in Chattanooga, Georgia shows with German band, Blue Alley

Hello Everyone!

My band and I have been busy lately playing some great festivals, and last month, we even got to play one in Georgia!  The Savannah Jazz Festival was a lot of fun, and it was good to see some old friends there.

On stage at the Savannah Jazz Festival

We just got back a couple of days ago from playing the Daytona Blues Festival and we had a ball there. A special THANKS to all the folks who came to support us at these festivals and for all the kindness shown to us by the festival staff. We love playing for you all!

Last month I submitted several of my photographs at the Georgia National Fair and I ended up winning FOUR ribbons!  I received two first place ribbons, and a third and fifth place.  I’m so excited about my photography, and winning more ribbons! Next to music, I love taking pictures!

"Goats at the Gate" won a First Place ribbon

“A Gate of Goats” won a First Place ribbon

"Old Man" won a First Place ribbon

“Lines of Time” won a First Place ribbon

I have a very unique show coming up this Saturday at the airport in Chattanooga.  It’s a fundraiser for the Moccasin Flying Club, which supports several different charities. There will be a drawing for a free “discovery/sightseeing flight”, and attendees will have the chance to tour a private plane. It all sounds like fun, so come on out and join us!

Next week, I’ll be joining Norbert Fuhrmann and his German band, Blue Alley for several dates.  For five years I toured with them in Germany, but this is the first time they’ve been in the states to play some shows. I’m looking forward to joining them on stage in Georgia, and I can’t wait to see my German friends again!

A lot of you often ask about my goats and I wanted you to know they are doing fine. My little boys are turning in to quite the handsome young billys. They already have the nannys looking at them! I sure enjoy my goats. They’re good company, and lift my spirits, no matter what’s going on. I just hope the rattlesnake stays away from them!

Blues Music Awards wrap-up, in the studio, new show dates added, remembering on Memorial Day

Hey Everyone!

Even though it’s been a couple of weeks since I went to the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, it still feels like yesterday! I had such a great time there, visiting with friends I don’t get to see very often, and hearing so much great music! This was about the 15th year I’ve gone to the BMA’s, and it never gets old. It’s a family reunion that I look forward to every year!

I was especially excited to go this year, for several reasons. First of all, it was the first time Lisa Biales and her husband Marc attended. I co-produced Lisa’s JUST LIKE HONEY album last year, and it has done real well. I wanted to introduce her to my friends, and let her see what a family the blues community really is.

Image
(EG, Gary Anton, owner of Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee,
and Lisa Biales mingling in the Marriott lobby)

Another exciting aspect is that three artists nominated for a BMA had one of my songs on their albums. “No Time for the Blues” was on Ann Rabson and Bob Margolin’s NOT ALONE album, and it  won the award for Acoustic Album of the year. It was emotional not having Ann there, even though in a way, it felt like she was.

“Bad Girl” is on Shakura S’Aida’s TIME album, and she was nominated for Contemporary Female Artist. And “Let the Healing Begin” is on Dorothy Moore’s BLUES HEART album, which was nominated for Soul Blues Album. Dorothy was also nominated for Soul Blues Female Artist. I’m definitely in good company with these artists!!

I always arrive on Wednesday, and run into a lot of my friends in the lobby of the Marriott. Lots of hugs and kisses are exchanged, and we all get to catch up with what’s going on with each other.

(VizzTone lobby party with host Rosy Rosenblatt)

And Thursday, there’s more mingling, and eating, and some jammin’ going on. An incredible vocalist, Greg Nagy and I rehearsed a song I wrote, and we were hoping the folks in the nearby rooms wouldn’t mind. Apparently they didn’t…

The BMA show started out on a wonderful note. The legendary Dorothy Moore took the stage, and performed “Let the Healing Begin.” That done my heart good! I was SO proud to see her up there, looking beautiful in her yellow outfit, singing my song, and playing harmonica on it. Then she did her famous hit “Misty Blue”. I was in tears, just so happy for her! She got a standing ovation, and set the bar for the rest of the evening’s performances. I am so honored to call Dorothy my friend!  And we’re talking about doing a duet together. I’ll keep you posted!

For 052613 blog - EG and Dorothy Moore
(EG and Dorothy Moore)

On Friday, there was more mingling and visiting, and that night we had a big VizzTone show at the Rum Boogie on Beale Street. Rosy Rosenblatt, with VizzTone, coordinated the show, and played some harp with me. I was proud to invite Lisa Biales on stage, and the crowd really threw some lovin’ on her!

BMA 2013 - EG, Bob, Lisa, Rosy on stage
(At the Rum Boogie Cafe – Bob Margolin, EG,

Then I did a duet with Greg Nagy, and the bluesiest guy I know, Bob Margolin joined us on guitar. I simply love the soulfulness of Greg’s voice, and we’ll definitely be looking at doing some recording, and some shows together. I’m excited about the possibilities!

Here’s a link to a video that Mark Patrick took at the Rum Boogie. Greg and I did pretty good even though we had little rehearsal. This is a work in progress.  And listen to Bob Margolin pick that guitar!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9tS8UQ5dJk

It’s always sad to leave Memphis, but I had to head back to Chattanooga to write some new songs with Tom Horner and get ready to produce Lisa’s next album. We’ll be working with Paul Hornsby in the studio this week. She has such a beautiful voice. And I can’t wait to hear how the songs turn out, and get the new album out there for y’all to hear!

I’ve booked some more dates, too, so keep an eye on the calendar. The upcoming shows are below.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day. Let’s not forget what the day is all about. There are families out there having cookouts with one less family member, because they gave their life for our freedom. A heartfelt “THANKS” goes out to the soldiers and their families who allow me the freedom to travel the world making music.  I am very blessed…

Till I see you again, Keep a song in your heart!
