Summer NAMM in Nashville!

I had a blast at Summer NAMM last week, and enjoyed visiting with some friends that I ran into.

For those who don’t know, NAMM is the National Association of Music Merchants, and a couple of times a year they have a convention, where the merchants and manufacturers exhibit their goods. And boy are they good!!

For a musician, it’s like being a kid in a candy store. There are aisles and aisles of instruments and gear, and it’s hard to know what to look at next! And there doesn’t seem to be enough time to see it all!

I’ve been to NAMM several times before, but this time was really special, because my guitar tech, Mark Graham, and his wife Latralle got to join me.
Mark looks after my guitars and equipment, and it was a proud moment when I got to introduce him to VP, Tim O’Brien and Kurt Listug, the CEO of Taylor Guitars.
I’ve played Taylor guitars for a long time, and everyone at Taylor has been so good to me through the years. So this was a special time, just chatting with the guys who keep things going at the company.
And I want to send a big “Thanks” out to Robin Straudt, who takes care of so many details for me.

I got to play a lot of the guitars Taylor had at the show. Here’s a snippet of me playing the Taylor 916ce. It sounded SO good, and I had a ball with it!

I also got to meet Daniel Cooper, the inventor and founder of Cooperstands. I’ve used Cooperstands for several years now, and I have one in every guitar case. They’re sturdy, and compact, and I just love ’em!   https://www.cooperstand.com/
.

It was interesting, too, seeing all the music industry people there. One of the first artists I ran into was Rory Feek. You may know him from the duo Rory + Joey. And you may know the story of him and his wife, Joey, and their daughter, Indiana. If you don’t, you should. It’s a love story for the ages, and it’ll break your heart, and yet leave you hopeful. http://www.thislifeilive.com/to-joey-with-love/

One of the best parts of the three days I spent in Nashville was running into Charles “Chip” Esten!

In case you don’t watch the CMT show “Nashville,” he plays Deacon Claybourne on the show. He’s as good a singer as he is an actor, and I was excited to get to chat with him for a minute…
You can read all about him here. https://www.charlesesten.com/

I’m back home now, and while it was fun to have a few days off, I’ve got to get back to work. We’ve got band rehearsals, and I’m working on some new songs. And I’ve got some shows coming up at Bradfordville Blues Club, the Crimson Moon, and several private events. Then my band and I are off to Canada for the Edmonton Blues Festival!

Y’all keep an eye on my schedule, ’cause we keep adding dates. I’ll be lookin’ for you out there on the road!

Robert Johnson book now available, Blues Music Awards, and Birthday Bash!

Hello everyone!

It’s finally Spring, I mean sometimes… Sometimes during the day it’s winter, then summer, then spring.  Oh well, it is what it is and I’m just proud to be here.

I started the year with a wonderful birthday bash in January at the Bradfordville Blues Club, celebrating with Gary Anton, whose birthday is the same day. We had a sold out crowd and had a wang dang doodle of a time! And I was thrilled to see all the young people in the audience. The Blues is still alive and well in Tallahassee! I wound up getting 3 birthday cakes with all the trimmings, and we all had a blast!

In February I performed in Chattanooga, and my friend from Germany, Norbert Fuhrmann, stopped in. He was in the states on business, and I’m so glad he had time to come by and sit in with me! It’s always good to connect with friends from all over the world.

Norbert Fuhrmann with EG Kight Tropicana

From there I went on to Nashville to catch up with some old friends, make new ones, and get a new year of songwriting started! I’m hoping to spend more time in Nashville, meeting with industry folks, and writing and pitching my songs to some great artists there.

I enjoyed listening to Markey Blue and her band at Bourbon Street one night, and she invited me up to jam with her band. And I got to hear Stacy Mitchhart and his band the next night. I haven’t heard him in years, and he still puts on a great show! I ended up on stage with him, too, and he tore it up! I had a ball jammin’ with both of them.

I had forgotten how many amazing musicians there are in Nashville! I can’t wait to go back!

I’m getting into the songwriting mood and have started working on some new songs, and even though my latest album, A NEW DAY, is still getting quite a bit of airplay, it’s time to start thinking about songs for the next project. If you haven’t heard A NEW DAY yet, you can listen to some soundbytes and get the CD or downloads here. www.egkight.com/discography/day.html

There are some songs I really want you to hear that may help you, or someone you know, in some way. That’s what I intended when I wrote them – to lift people up. I hope it works!

I’m all geared up to go to Memphis in May with my Blue South Band for the Blues Music Awards. As most of you know, I’ve been nominated for the Koko Taylor Award. I feel like I’ve already won just having her name on the nomination and just knowing that the industry folks thought enough of me to include me on the list of nominations. May can’t get here soon enough. I can’t wait to see everybody!

I’ve been taking some new photos and I’ll be posting them soon. “Preaching Blues,” the book about Robert Johnson that has my photograph on the cover is out now. The day I got my copy of the book in the mail from the author, James Nuttall, was an exciting day for this Songbird! You can order the ebook on AmazonEG holding Preaching Blues book Nuttall
If you want to see some of my newer photos, you can check out my photography site here. www.EGKightPhotography.com

I’ll be at the Capitol Oyster Bar in Montgomery with my Blue South Band this Sunday, then it’s on to the Tropicana Room in Chattanooga, then to the Crimson Moon in Dahlonega. Then we’re doing a festival, then I have some more Alabama dates. This summer we’ll be in Port RoyalSouth Carolina, and we’re working on some Arkansas and Oklahoma dates, and some more in Indiana and Michigan. And in the fall, I’m excited to be playing the 2 Left Feet Festival in Connecticut for the first time! I’m really looking forward to heading up there and seeing that part of the country!

We’re constantly working on more tour dates, so keep checking back. It’s changing all the time. Click on the “Tour Dates” tab above.

Thanks again for your support and especially for believing in me. I hope to see you soon.  Until then….. Keep a song in your heart!

BMA Koko Taylor Award nomination, Robert Johnson book, A New Day, Bradenton, and The Crimson Moon!

I hope you’re having a holly, jolly Christmas! Remember to be kind to one another and have patience. Try to enjoy each day and remember what we’re celebrating here, a birthday party for someone very special, Jesus.

My new CD “A New Day” is still getting quite a bit of airplay and lots of positive reviews. It’s what I call my “miracle album.” You can hear several of the songs, and read my story about it here. http://www.EGKightMusic.com/egs-story

And if you don’t have a copy yet, you can order it here. http://www.EGKightMusic.com/music And I’d be glad to autograph it for you. Just let me know how many you want, and who you want me to autograph it to!

I just found out last week that I’ve been nominated for another Blues Music Award – the Koko Taylor Award!  (formerly called the Traditional Blues Female award)  Now for anybody who knows me, you know that there isn’t an award out there that would mean more to me. After all, I wouldn’t be writing and singing the blues if it wasn’t for Koko. When I read the nominations, I had tears running down my face. It was a great start to this wonderful holiday season for me.

The award show will be held in Memphis on May 7th. In order to vote, you must be a member of the Blues Foundation. This is a wonderful organization that supports musicians, fans, musicians in need, and so many other things. If you’d like to be a part of it, you can join by clicking here. http://www.shopbluesfoundation.org/select-your-membership/

I got word this past weekend that the book about Robert Johnson that has my photograph as the cover will be available online soon. It’s called “Preaching Blues” by James Nuttall. I’ll let you know when it’s ready to purchase!

I’ve been busy traveling around doing what I love best, making music. My Blue South Band and I just played the Bradenton Blues Festival in Florida and did we ever have a large time! Lisa Biales sat in with us, too, and we had a ball! I love it when I’m surrounded by my friends on stage! I also did a “Blues In The Schools” program with a new friend, Dave Muskett. It was a rewarding experience and I hope the young people learned some things about the blues and music in general. There’s so much more to it than just performing.

A few weeks ago, I traveled once again to Valparaiso, Indiana and then on to Allegan, Michigan where I was joined on stage by Greg Nagy, who recorded a duet with me on my latest album. Here’s a video of us together at the Griswold Auditorium performing “When Something is Wrong with My Baby.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NabuY6YwSBQ

Another friend, Ellen Altamore, joined me on stage at the Griswold too. She is a Sign Language Interpreter, and she signed to my song “Through the Eyes of a Child.” It was a heartwarming performance, and here’s a video of it.

It’s always fun to go to new places and meet up with old and new friends, and I can’t wait to head back up that way.

And just before that trip I was closer to home in Georgia, at Dalton State College, at Steve’s Live Music in Sandy Springs, and at Darwin’s in Marietta. I sure do enjoy my work, if you can call it that!

Tomorrow I’ll be playing my last show of the year at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega, Georgia. I always try to play there during the Christmas season. They have the whole town square all dressed up in Christmas lights. It’s something to see! I hope to see you there!

Crimson Moon logo

I’ll be around home the rest of the year. Some of my goats are expecting babies and I need to be home for that. I’ll keep you up to date on the babies.

Again, I hope you enjoy your family, friends, pets, and music during this holiday season. We’re working on some dates for 2015, and we’ll post them as soon as they’re confirmed. I look forward to seeing you next year!

Until then, keep a song in your heart!

A New Day is coming! A New Day is coming! And CD release parties are comin’ too!

Hey Everybody!

I’m so excited because I now have my new CDA NEW DAY – in my hot little hands! We’ve sent it out to radio, and the media are getting their copies as well. It will be released nationally on September 16th, and it’s already getting some great reviews!  You can read some of them under the REVIEWS tab above.

While I was in Nashville recently, I got to do something I’ve never done there before – sightseeing! I sure enjoyed soaking up so many areas of the city. And I took this photo from the pedestrian bridge. I sure love Nashville!

During that trip I also got to meet the artist who designed my last two album covers. I was thrilled to meet Cara Schneider, and she was just as genuinely sweet in person as she has been on the phone every time I’ve talked to her. Cara is the Art Director for the Nashville Opera, and she’s an incredibly inspiring designer. I’m so glad we got to visit and have some tea. Here’s a photo of us in her front yard.

I have some CD release parties coming up, and we’re gonna celebrate in a big way! We’ve confirmed one in Macon, GA on September 19th, one in Chattanooga, TN on October 4th and a couple in Ohio later on in October. Just keep an eye on my TOUR DATES, because we keep adding more!

My band and I tried some of the new songs out a few weeks ago in Tallahassee and they went over great.  The crowd seemed to love them. That sure makes a songwriter feel good. Our first set was live on the internet from Bradfordville Blues Club, and it was awesome!

And speaking of my band, we’ve FINALLY come up with the perfect name for these guys, who are like my brothers. They are now called the BLUE SOUTH BAND! We’ll be adding their photos and bios to my website, so you can know more about these amazingly talented players. I’d be lost without them, and I want you all to show ‘em some love the next time you see them! Check back soon to read their stories…

And while we were on stage at Bradfordville, we were being filmed to be part of a tourism video for Tallahassee. I think it turned out GREAT! See what you think. You’ll see us at the 2:13 markhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kguaD_P-Fts&list=UUDlZa0hPoPD3gjwRZrv9A6Q

You all know how I love to take pictures! I’ve taken some new ones recently, too, and I’ve updated my photography page.  Check it out at www.egkightphotography.com and let me know what you think.

I drove up to Hobart, IN near the end of July, and had the time of my life! It was a corporate event, for the owners of an oil company, and an apple orchard, among other businesses. I got to perform inside a huge barn, and the people I was entertaining were some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! They even took me on a golf cart tour of the apple orchard, and I sure wish my mama could have been with me. She loves apples! I so enjoyed spending the afternoon with the Luke Oil folks, and I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality. I look forward to coming back your way one day soon. Thanks to Dana, and Tom, Sr., and Ryan, and everyone else who made this event such fun!

I so appreciate all of you, and love the connection I have with you at my shows. You make me want to continue to grow as an artist, and to make people smile. Thanks for giving me the positive energy I need!

You can pre-order my album now on my website, iTunes, and CD Baby, so you have a lot of choices! I can’t wait for you to hear it! Just click on the MUSIC tab above.

I’ll be in the north Georgia Mountains this Saturday, at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega. Then I have shows coming up in Indiana with Lisa Biales as the Peach Pickin’ Mamas, in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee with my Blue South Band, and as a solo in Ohio.

Keep an eye on my schedule, and I’ll be looking for you!  Until then, keep a song in your heart!

Crimson Moon, Peach Pickin’ Mamas, BMA’s in Memphis, Billtown Festival, and playing with my goats!

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to post a quick update, to let you know what I’ve got going on.

First, I wanted you to see how I spent the afternoon a few days ago. When I’m on the road, I miss my family. And I miss all my pets and from this picture it seems the goats miss me!  I went down to visit them when I came off the road, and look how they greeted me!

As most of you know, besides playing solo and with my band, I’ve also been blessed to team up with Lisa Biales as the “Peach Pickin’ Mamas,” and we just wrapped up another tour. Read all about it at http://www.PeachPickinMamas.com!

I’ll be hitting the road again this weekend, with a solo show on Saturday night at The Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega. Their website states that they exist to “support the creative spirit,” and that’s so true. It’s one of my favorite venues, and I’m thrilled that I’ll be back on their stage.

I haven’t been on the road as much this year as I’d like to be, because I’m spending a lot of time in the studio working on my next album. I’m getting more and more excited about it by the day. I’ve got most of the songs recorded, and I’m working on a couple more new ones. I’ll be working hard with Paul Hornsby and my band over the next few months getting it all finished up. I can’t wait for you all to hear my new songs!!

Last week at the Eatonton Putnam Arts Foundation 2014 Photography Contest & Exhibition, I won a couple of ribbons. It seems that everybody likes my goats, because this photo, “Goats at the Gate” got one of the ribbons. You can see more of my photography at http://www.egkightphotography.com.

I’ll be in Memphis for the Blues Music Awards next month, then in June I’ll be playing at one of my all-time favorite festivals, the Billtown Blues Festival in Hughesville, Pennsylvania. Keep an eye out on my schedule as we’re working on some new dates and I may be headed your way. Until then  keep a song in your heart!

Still a kid at heart, my band was smokin’, Robert Johnson, and stocking stuffers!

Hi All,

I so hope you are having a wonderful holiday season. In the same week it was like summertime here in Georgia, but then it got cold. I enjoy this time of year so much. I guess I’m still a kid at heart.

I recently performed two solo shows in Chattanooga and it was so heartwarming to see old friends and meet several new ones. Chattanooga has been good to me and I just love playing there.

My amazing band and I recently traveled to Orlando and Lake Worth, Florida to put on some shows. Needless to say, we had a blast. Taking on a new keyboard player, Mike Harrell, has added so much to my band and has taken our show up a level. Man, oh man I had fun singing with these guys. I’m hoping to take them into the studio soon. Can’t wait!

I’m in Pine Mountain, Georgia this week to take some pictures. I have a new camera and I’m going to take some time to try and learn how to use it. Once I learn it, you better look out! I enjoy taking pictures almost as much as I enjoy my music and that’s saying a lot.

I did get some good news this week about my pictures. I found out that I got Honorable Mention in one contest and have been asked to use one of my photos for the cover of an upcoming book on the life and times of Robert Johnson! Oh, I’m so excited!

One of my newer photos - "Arches of Time"

One of my newer photos – “Arches of Time”

I’m playing a house concert this weekend in the Macon area and have a couple more coming up in January. If you’re interested in having one, don’t be afraid to ask. I love playing house concerts. I’ll also be in Dahlonega, Georgia on December 21st at the Crimson Moon Café. It’s a quant mountain town that is just beautiful, especially during the Christmas season. I hope you can come see the lights, and come to my show.

And if you need some stocking stuffers, don’t forget about my CD’s and pictures. I’ve got plenty of them!

We’ve changed the structure of my blog a bit, so now you can keep up with my schedule here. Just click on the “tour dates” tab at the top, and you’ll see all my dates. I’ve got some more tentative dates coming up, and as soon as we get them under contract, we’ll post them here. Keep checking back. And I hope to see you out on the road somewhere!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Let’s be kind to one another. You never know how just a smile can lighten someone’s day.

Until I see you, keep a song in your heart.

Unique airport show in Chattanooga, Georgia shows with German band, Blue Alley

Hello Everyone!

My band and I have been busy lately playing some great festivals, and last month, we even got to play one in Georgia!  The Savannah Jazz Festival was a lot of fun, and it was good to see some old friends there.

I have a very unique show coming up this Saturday at the airport in Chattanooga.  It’s a fundraiser for the Moccasin Flying Club, which supports several different charities. There will be a drawing for a free “discovery/sightseeing flight”, and attendees will have the chance to tour a private plane. It all sounds like fun, so come on out and join us!

Next week, I’ll be joining Norbert Fuhrmann and his German band, Blue Alley for several dates.  For five years I toured with them in Germany, but this is the first time they’ve been in the states to play some shows. I’m looking forward to joining them on stage in Georgia, and I can’t wait to see my German friends again!

A lot of you often ask about my goats and I wanted you to know they are doing fine. My little boys are turning in to quite the handsome young billys. They already have the nannys looking at them! I sure enjoy my goats. They’re good company, and lift my spirits, no matter what’s going on. I just hope the rattlesnake stays away from them!

Shows in Ohio this weekend, my new photography website, Lisa’s new album, and my goats!

Hello Everyone!

I don’t know about you, but it’s been raining, raining, and raining in Georgia. My catfish pond has overflowed twice already and we’re still having some rain almost every day.  At least it’s kept the temperature down compared to what it usually is down here in the south.

Paul Hornsby and I just finished producing a new album for Lisa Biales. This is the second one we’ve worked on together and I think it’s terrific!  It may be out in August some time.  It’s called “Belle of the Blues” and I can’t wait for you to hear it.  I get as excited about Lisa’s albums as I do mine!

I’ve been busy performing in Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia.  Thanks to all of you who came out to my shows, picked up a cd and purchased one of my photographs.

I have some great shows coming up this week in Ohio.  My band and I will be performing at the Cincinnati Blues Festival on Friday night, then I’ll be performing my solo show in Columbus on Saturday at the Hey Hey Club, and then Sunday I’ll be in Silverton performing at a benefit show for “Women Writing For A Change”.

Next week I’ll be back at the Crimson Moon in Dahlonega with artist Heather Wilkerson.  She will be painting on canvas, live to my music. It sounds like fun to me!

My band and I will be back in Tallahassee at the Bradfordville Blues Club on August 17th.  Now you talk about a fun place – this is one of the best! Then on August 24th I’ll be playing a songwriters night at Eatonton, Georgia at the Crooked Pines Farm in “The Barn”.  I’m excited about this new venue and appreciate people who want to showcase songwriters.

My goats are doing fine.  My little boys are really getting handsome and Sippie is really growing.  I’m so glad you all keep asking about my goats, and that you enjoy them!
