Goats, songs, gas pumps, Mama, Chattanooga, and Canada!

I’ve been working on so many different projects that I can hardly keep up with myself!

Of course, my pet goats get a lot of my attention every day when I’m at home.
Here’s me holding Moses, a truly precious goat.

And I’m still working on a couple of new songs, and getting set lists ready for some upcoming shows. I love being home, and I love being on the road, seeing all of you!

I’m getting ready to head out again next week to the Chattanooga area for three shows. Two of them are private, but you can come see me at the House Concert next Wednesday! Get all the details on my TOUR DATES page. Email the host to RSVP and make plans to come see me!

On August 25th my band and I will board a big jet plane, and head north to Canada for the Edmonton Blues Festival! It’s been a long time since I’ve been up there, and I’m sure looking forward to seeing Cam Hayden, and all my friends up there. They’ve got a fabulous lineup, including Victor Wainwright, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, Colin Linden Trio, Toni Lynn Washington, Mike Ledbetter, Monster Mike Welch, and so many more amazing artists. If you don’t have tickets yet, ya better get ya some!

A couple of weeks ago, I was with my band at Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee. We always have a great time there, and our friends out in radio land and online get to listen to the first set. That’s the next best thing to being there! Here’s a photo that Gary Anton took of all of us on stage. We were having a naturally LARJ time!

We always look forward to our shows there, and we’ll be back in January, to celebrate a couple of birthdays – Gary Anton’s and mine! Make plans now to be part of the celebration!

Last weekend I did a solo show at one of my favorite cafes, up in the north Georgia mountains – The Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega.

It was great to see so many friends and family, who drove from all over the state to see me! And it’s always good to have my mama with me. Here’s a picture that Elizabeth Adams took of us. I got Mama up to sing a song with me, and everyone seemed to love it. And I love my mama! Can you tell?!?

On our way back home from Dahlonega, we headed over to one of my regular stops along the way – Murrayville. This is where I’ve gotten so many of my favorite photos over the last few years. This time, I got a couple more. See what you think.

You can see more of them on my PHOTOGRAPHY page at the link above.

I’ve got a lot to finish up before I drive up to Chattanooga next week. But I’ll be lookin’ for ya on the road!

Till then, Keep a Song in Your Heart!

HAPPY 2017! RECAP OF 2016!

My latest album is called “A New Day,” and most of you know why…

And today is a new day, the first day of a brand new year. I wanted to take some time today, to review last year, and share the things I look forward to this year. In 2016, I did some exciting things, and even marked off one of the things on my bucket list.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

– With my Blue South Band, we helped Gary Anton celebrate his birthday, along with mine, at Bradfordville Blues Club. If you haven’t been there yet, and you’re a true blues lover, you absolutely have to check it out. It’s one of the coolest venues I’ve EVER been in, and once you get a taste of the vibe there, you’ll want to keep going back.

– I spent some time in Nashville, which I hadn’t done in a while, had several co-writing sessions, and even performed in a writers round at the Commodore Club, hosted by Debi Champion. It was great to see and hear old friends, JC Ward, and Diane Gentes! It brought back a lot of memories from the old Bogie’s and Broken Spoke days.

– I performed at more house concerts, and I just have to say that I REALLY enjoy doing that kind of a show. It’s an intimate listening room environment, and I can practically reach out and touch my audience from the stage. I love the feeling of being so close to the fans, and they seem to enjoy the up-close-and-personal concerts.

– I did another singer/songwriter night with my longtime friend, Becky Hobbs, and Lucy Billings, at the Renaissance Arts Center Theatre in Kingsport. There’s something so comfortable about sharing the stage with friends and hearing them sing their own songs. I had the best seat in the house!

– And my friend, Michael Buffalo Smith invited me to do another writers round with Sonny Moorman and Russell Gulley, for a benefit for The Big House Museum. That was a fun afternoon, too, and it was for a good cause!

– One of the most exciting writers shows that I did was in my own hometown of Dublin, Georgia! I was part of the launching of a new songwriters series for ExploreGeorgia.org, celebrating “The Year of Georgia Music.” Levi Lowrey and Greg Hester joined me at the Historic Carnegie Library, and we sang our original songs for my hometown fans. Thanks to Lisa Love and Jody Jackson for putting that show together, and inviting me to be a part of it!

– I also did some shows up in Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Mississippi. From a concert in an apple orchard, to clubs, to house concerts, to a membership kickoff event for Marcia Adams and her new Indy Blues Society, to a chapel concert series, to a theater, a museum, and a yacht club, to festivals, to private parties, to a coffee house, I had a great year! I love performing for old and new fans alike, and I’m excited about some things we’re working on for this year. We’ve got some different things on the horizon, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out.

– And last year I did something I haven’t done in 20 years or more – I took a vacation, and went to Wyoming to take pictures!! I hope to knock a few more things off my bucket list this year. Stay tuned!

– Last year set a record for my photography sales! And I won more ribbons, too! I’m so thrilled that y’all like my pictures, and I’ve added some new ones to my photography page. Take a look and see what you think. And if you don’t see what you want there, that doesn’t mean that I’m sold out. I just like to change them up every so often. http://www.EGKightPhotography.com

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Coming up this year, I want you all to be watching out for the movie, “Collar,” too. Five of my songs are in it! I’ve seen a sneak preview of it, and it’s a well-written movie, and you’ll recognize some of the actors – Tom Sizemore, Rebecca DeMornay, Richard Roundtree, and David Patrick Wilson. When it comes out in theaters, be sure to go see it, and let me know what you think! Here’s a link to a brief video snippet of my songs in the movie.

.
As you can see, it was an incredibly busy year. This year I’ll be at home for a bit, working on a few secret projects. I’ll let you know when they’re almost ready to announce.

And I’ve booked some very cool gigs already, including the Edmonton Blues Festival. I’m excited about some things I’ll be doing, and we’re entertaining other offers, too. Keep an eye on my tour dates page for all the latest.

I’ll be at the IBC in Memphis next month! Who else is going?!? I hope to see you there!

And stay tuned for news on baby goats. I have six pregnant mamas, and expect to have babies any day now! Brownie’s about to pop!

May this be the first day of the best year of your life!

Love,
EG

BB King Tribute, Inaugural Fine Arts concert, Another song on TV, GABBAfest, Skydog, and MORE!

Hey everybody!

It’s been a while since my last blog post, which was about the loss of BB King. It’s still hard to believe he’s gone…

Ironically, today I’m writing about BB again, on his birthday. I’m honored to be a part of a Tribute Concert in Nashville next week, performing along with some great musicians and entertainers. There are few people in the music business today who weren’t touched in some way by BB’s music, personality, and sweet spirit. He influenced my music in a huge way. I wrote about it, and you can find it on page 29 of the tribute issue of Blues Music Magazine. http://www.bluesmusicmagazine.com/bb-king.html

And it’s very fitting that we’ll be performing at this Tribute with Stacy Mitchhart and his band. In the early days of my blues career, I went to Nashville a lot, and spent many a night at Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar, listening to Stacy and his band, soaking up every word, every note, and every gesture. Stacy is the epitome of Nashville Blues, and Bourbon Street was the first blues club to open in Nashville. I even brought my band to that stage several times through the years, and we always had a great time. And to this day, when I travel to or through Nashville, I try to find time to stop down there, to get my blues fix.

Thanks to Gina Hughes and the Galaxie Agency for allowing me to be a part of such a special evening. I’m looking forward to seeing Claudette King, Crystal Shawanda, Gary Nicholson, Mike Farris, T. Graham Brown, and all the other great artists who are a part of the tribute.
They’ve already sold a lot of tickets, but there are still some good seats left. Get yours today! http://www.citywinery.com/nashville/tickets/bbkingtribute092215.html

I also wanted to post a link to the “Women in Music” edition of the Blues-E-News magazine. My story is on page 44. Get a copy when you can, and read all about all these amazing women. Thanks to Wayne Rinehart and his team for putting this together! http://blues-e-news.com/2015-women-in-music-feature

I’ve been a lot of places since my last blog update. I’ve been blessed to do some shows with my Blue South Band at the Capitol Oyster Bar, the Bikes, Blues & BBQ Festival, the Crawdad & Music Festival, the Wiregrass Blues Fest honoring Paul Hornsby, Bradfordville Blues Club, at The Big House Allman Brothers Band Museum, the Street Music Concert Series in SC, and even on the Blues Music Awards show!
I’ve got one of the best bands on the planet, and I’m never more at home than when I’m on stage with them. I’ve known each of them for 15 years or more, and I love them like brothers. You can read all about them here. http://www.EGKightMusic.com/blue-south-band-bios

While I was in Memphis for the Blues Music Awards, I also got to share the stage with my Peach Pickin’ Mamas partner, Lisa Biales, as well as Greg Nagy, Victor Wainwright, Gracie Curan, and Andy T and his band.
And I got to tour the brand new Blues Hall of Fame! That was definitely a highlight of my year, to see the end result of so much hard work by the Blues Foundation.
What a fabulous place, for people from all over the world to see where the American art form called “The Blues” got its start. I’m definitely going to go back and see it again. I could go through the museum time after time…

I’ve also gotten to perform with some amazing bands across the country, from California to Connecticut! It was great to get out to Sacramento, and share the stage with John Ellis, Val Starr, and their Blues Rocket band. It was a beautiful evening on the patio, and I look forward to getting back out to that part of the country.

And last weekend I was with my northern band at the 2 Left Feet Blues Festival in Connecticut. We had a ball with my “northern cousins,” Char and Tom, and I can’t wait to see them again.
And at the end of the night, I got to join John Nemeth and his band for a song. Any time I’m on a stage, I’m happy, and when I get to share it with talented folks like these, I’m overjoyed!

And I’ve done some solo shows, too. I love having my band with me, but sometimes a solo is more fitting for the venue. I’ve done some house concerts, been back to Chattanooga and Dahlonega, and was in Florence, AL for a show at the Sweetwater Depot.

More recently, Andra Faye and Scott Ballantine and I performed at a Women’s Way event, and Lisa Biales sat in with us. And the next night I had Long Tall Deb and Hurricane Ruth sitting in with me.

Here’s a link where you’ll find a video of Deb, Ruth and me at the Hey Hey Club. We had a naturally good time singing “You Can Have My Husband!” http://www.EGKightMusic.com/videos

I’m also thrilled about the latest news about one of my songs! “Comin’ Down with the Blues” will air on a show called “From Dusk Till Dawn” on the new El Rey Network! That feels pretty good, that they like my song enough to use it!

I’ve also got a lot going on with my photography. Three of my photographs were just selected to hang in the Arts Clayton Gallery in Jonesboro, Georgia for the month of October. What an honor! Here’s one of them. I took this on the streets of Memphis. And you can see more of my photos at http://www.EGKightPhotography.com

And speaking of Georgia, how exciting was it to watch Miss Georgia being crowned the new Miss America!! I’m so proud of Betty Cantrell! She’s from Warner Robins, which isn’t far from my hometown.

As you can tell, I’ve been busy! I try to keep my website’s home page updated so you can see what I’m up to, but I wanted to take time today to fill you in on everything.

I’ve got a lot of great stuff coming up, too. I was asked to bring my band and be the first artist to grace the stage at a brand new $8 million Fine Arts Center in north Georgia. I’m so honored, and am proud to bring our music to show the residents of Union County that their tax dollars were well spent! Then I’ll head to Nashville for the BB King Tribute, back to Macon for GABBAfest, on to Cincinnati, Oxford, Indianapolis, Hobart, then down to Jacksonville Beach, and back up to Williamsport and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

I know this was a lot to take in, but I’ve been so excited, and had a lot to tell ya! I’m havin’ a ball y’all!

Keep an eye on my Tour Dates, and come see me when I’m in your area. I always enjoy seeing your smiling faces! You’re the reason I keep doing what I do!

Keep a song in your heart!

Crimson Moon, Peach Pickin’ Mamas, BMA’s in Memphis, Billtown Festival, and playing with my goats!

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to post a quick update, to let you know what I’ve got going on.

First, I wanted you to see how I spent the afternoon a few days ago. When I’m on the road, I miss my family. And I miss all my pets and from this picture it seems the goats miss me!  I went down to visit them when I came off the road, and look how they greeted me!

As most of you know, besides playing solo and with my band, I’ve also been blessed to team up with Lisa Biales as the “Peach Pickin’ Mamas,” and we just wrapped up another tour. Read all about it at http://www.PeachPickinMamas.com!

I’ll be hitting the road again this weekend, with a solo show on Saturday night at The Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega. Their website states that they exist to “support the creative spirit,” and that’s so true. It’s one of my favorite venues, and I’m thrilled that I’ll be back on their stage.

I haven’t been on the road as much this year as I’d like to be, because I’m spending a lot of time in the studio working on my next album. I’m getting more and more excited about it by the day. I’ve got most of the songs recorded, and I’m working on a couple more new ones. I’ll be working hard with Paul Hornsby and my band over the next few months getting it all finished up. I can’t wait for you all to hear my new songs!!

Last week at the Eatonton Putnam Arts Foundation 2014 Photography Contest & Exhibition, I won a couple of ribbons. It seems that everybody likes my goats, because this photo, “Goats at the Gate” got one of the ribbons. You can see more of my photography at http://www.egkightphotography.com.

I’ll be in Memphis for the Blues Music Awards next month, then in June I’ll be playing at one of my all-time favorite festivals, the Billtown Blues Festival in Hughesville, Pennsylvania. Keep an eye out on my schedule as we’re working on some new dates and I may be headed your way. Until then  keep a song in your heart!

Shows in Ohio this weekend, my new photography website, Lisa’s new album, and my goats!

Hello Everyone!

I don’t know about you, but it’s been raining, raining, and raining in Georgia. My catfish pond has overflowed twice already and we’re still having some rain almost every day.  At least it’s kept the temperature down compared to what it usually is down here in the south.

Paul Hornsby and I just finished producing a new album for Lisa Biales. This is the second one we’ve worked on together and I think it’s terrific!  It may be out in August some time.  It’s called “Belle of the Blues” and I can’t wait for you to hear it.  I get as excited about Lisa’s albums as I do mine!

I’ve been busy performing in Arkansas, Tennessee and Georgia.  Thanks to all of you who came out to my shows, picked up a cd and purchased one of my photographs.

I got a standing ovation after my solo show at The Auditorium during Eureka Springs Blues Weekend!

Speaking of photos, I now have a way for you to get them online.  You can go to http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/eg-kight.html and check them out.  I love taking pictures almost as much as making music.  I’m not a professional but I sure enjoy it!

I have some great shows coming up this week in Ohio.  My band and I will be performing at the Cincinnati Blues Festival on Friday night, then I’ll be performing my solo show in Columbus on Saturday at the Hey Hey Club, and then Sunday I’ll be in Silverton performing at a benefit show for “Women Writing For A Change”.

Next week I’ll be back at the Crimson Moon in Dahlonega with artist Heather Wilkerson.  She will be painting on canvas, live to my music. It sounds like fun to me!

My band and I will be back in Tallahassee at the Bradfordville Blues Club on August 17th.  Now you talk about a fun place – this is one of the best! Then on August 24th I’ll be playing a songwriters night at Eatonton, Georgia at the Crooked Pines Farm in “The Barn”.  I’m excited about this new venue and appreciate people who want to showcase songwriters.

My goats are doing fine.  My little boys are really getting handsome and Sippie is really growing.  I’m so glad you all keep asking about my goats, and that you enjoy them!
