Goats, songs, gas pumps, Mama, Chattanooga, and Canada!

I’ve been working on so many different projects that I can hardly keep up with myself!

Of course, my pet goats get a lot of my attention every day when I’m at home.
Here’s me holding Moses, a truly precious goat.

And I’m still working on a couple of new songs, and getting set lists ready for some upcoming shows. I love being home, and I love being on the road, seeing all of you!

I’m getting ready to head out again next week to the Chattanooga area for three shows. Two of them are private, but you can come see me at the House Concert next Wednesday! Get all the details on my TOUR DATES page. Email the host to RSVP and make plans to come see me!

On August 25th my band and I will board a big jet plane, and head north to Canada for the Edmonton Blues Festival! It’s been a long time since I’ve been up there, and I’m sure looking forward to seeing Cam Hayden, and all my friends up there. They’ve got a fabulous lineup, including Victor Wainwright, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, Colin Linden Trio, Toni Lynn Washington, Mike Ledbetter, Monster Mike Welch, and so many more amazing artists. If you don’t have tickets yet, ya better get ya some!

A couple of weeks ago, I was with my band at Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee. We always have a great time there, and our friends out in radio land and online get to listen to the first set. That’s the next best thing to being there! Here’s a photo that Gary Anton took of all of us on stage. We were having a naturally LARJ time!

We always look forward to our shows there, and we’ll be back in January, to celebrate a couple of birthdays – Gary Anton’s and mine! Make plans now to be part of the celebration!

Last weekend I did a solo show at one of my favorite cafes, up in the north Georgia mountains – The Crimson Moon Cafe in Dahlonega.

It was great to see so many friends and family, who drove from all over the state to see me! And it’s always good to have my mama with me. Here’s a picture that Elizabeth Adams took of us. I got Mama up to sing a song with me, and everyone seemed to love it. And I love my mama! Can you tell?!?

On our way back home from Dahlonega, we headed over to one of my regular stops along the way – Murrayville. This is where I’ve gotten so many of my favorite photos over the last few years. This time, I got a couple more. See what you think.

You can see more of them on my PHOTOGRAPHY page at the link above.

I’ve got a lot to finish up before I drive up to Chattanooga next week. But I’ll be lookin’ for ya on the road!

Till then, Keep a Song in Your Heart!

Summer NAMM in Nashville!

I had a blast at Summer NAMM last week, and enjoyed visiting with some friends that I ran into.

For those who don’t know, NAMM is the National Association of Music Merchants, and a couple of times a year they have a convention, where the merchants and manufacturers exhibit their goods. And boy are they good!!

For a musician, it’s like being a kid in a candy store. There are aisles and aisles of instruments and gear, and it’s hard to know what to look at next! And there doesn’t seem to be enough time to see it all!

I’ve been to NAMM several times before, but this time was really special, because my guitar tech, Mark Graham, and his wife Latralle got to join me.
Mark looks after my guitars and equipment, and it was a proud moment when I got to introduce him to VP, Tim O’Brien and Kurt Listug, the CEO of Taylor Guitars.
I’ve played Taylor guitars for a long time, and everyone at Taylor has been so good to me through the years. So this was a special time, just chatting with the guys who keep things going at the company.
And I want to send a big “Thanks” out to Robin Straudt, who takes care of so many details for me.

I got to play a lot of the guitars Taylor had at the show. Here’s a snippet of me playing the Taylor 916ce. It sounded SO good, and I had a ball with it!

I also got to meet Daniel Cooper, the inventor and founder of Cooperstands. I’ve used Cooperstands for several years now, and I have one in every guitar case. They’re sturdy, and compact, and I just love ’em!   https://www.cooperstand.com/
.

It was interesting, too, seeing all the music industry people there. One of the first artists I ran into was Rory Feek. You may know him from the duo Rory + Joey. And you may know the story of him and his wife, Joey, and their daughter, Indiana. If you don’t, you should. It’s a love story for the ages, and it’ll break your heart, and yet leave you hopeful. http://www.thislifeilive.com/to-joey-with-love/

One of the best parts of the three days I spent in Nashville was running into Charles “Chip” Esten!

In case you don’t watch the CMT show “Nashville,” he plays Deacon Claybourne on the show. He’s as good a singer as he is an actor, and I was excited to get to chat with him for a minute…
You can read all about him here. https://www.charlesesten.com/

I’m back home now, and while it was fun to have a few days off, I’ve got to get back to work. We’ve got band rehearsals, and I’m working on some new songs. And I’ve got some shows coming up at Bradfordville Blues Club, the Crimson Moon, and several private events. Then my band and I are off to Canada for the Edmonton Blues Festival!

Y’all keep an eye on my schedule, ’cause we keep adding dates. I’ll be lookin’ for you out there on the road!

Blues Music Awards, Goats, Tour dates, Wyoming, IBA Voting!

Hey Everybody!

I had such a great time at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis! It’s always great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. And this year I had the honor of presenting at the awards show, with the talented Eden Brent. There we were, two southern women, talking about the nominees, and handing out some awards. I just hope everyone understood our southern talkin’!

Our new Blues Foundation President, Barbara Newman, had called me weeks earlier to see if I could bring one of my goats to the show. I was afraid it would try to eat everything on stage, and fertilize it too, so I brought a stuffed goat instead. And now, Memphis Billy, my little stuffed goat is famous! Here he is after a long day in Memphis, ready for bed.

IMG_4846

Not long before heading to Memphis I found out that a fantastic artist, Shaun Murphy, had just released a new album with two of my songs on it. She’s what I call “a singer’s singer!” I had the chance to spend a little time with her in Memphis. Be sure and check out her CD, “It Won’t Stop Raining”.

I’ve gotten a lot of nominations through the years, and every time I’m honored just to be considered. This is my first Independent Blues Awards nomination, for Best Female Artist. You can VOTE, and tell all your friends. But do it quick! Voting ends June 1st. http://www.makingascene.org/vote-now-independent-blues-awards

If you’re in the tri-cities area, up near Knoxville next week, y’all come see me at the Renaissance Arts Center in Kingsport, TN. I’ll be sharing the stage with Becky Hobbs and Lucy Billings, doing a “songwriters in the round” show. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, performing our original songs, and telling how they were born. Some tickets are still available. You can read all about Lucy and Becky, and get ticket info at http://www.bluesouthtalent.com/latest-news.EG Kight, Becky Hobbs, Lucy Billings Kingsport 052616

I have a show coming up at the Allman Brothers Big House in Macon, GA in June. Michael “Buffalo” Smith and a couple other writers and I will be doing some original songs. And I’ve got some private parties, and house concerts coming up, too. I love performing at house concerts. I’ll be at several Ohio venues in June, and my Blue South Band and I have shows coming up at Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee and Capitol Oyster Bar in Montgomery. Then in August I’ll be making a solo appearance at the Cincy Blues Festival opening for a Saffire reunion.

Later in August I’m going to be doing something I’ve never done – flying to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to take pictures! This has been on my “bucket list” for a long time I’m so excited about this trip and look forward to giving my camera a work out!

Be sure and keep an eye on my Tour Dates page because it changes all the time.

I hope to see you on the road somewhere. Until then, keep a song in your heart!

Robert Johnson book now available, Blues Music Awards, and Birthday Bash!

Hello everyone!

It’s finally Spring, I mean sometimes… Sometimes during the day it’s winter, then summer, then spring.  Oh well, it is what it is and I’m just proud to be here.

I started the year with a wonderful birthday bash in January at the Bradfordville Blues Club, celebrating with Gary Anton, whose birthday is the same day. We had a sold out crowd and had a wang dang doodle of a time! And I was thrilled to see all the young people in the audience. The Blues is still alive and well in Tallahassee! I wound up getting 3 birthday cakes with all the trimmings, and we all had a blast!

In February I performed in Chattanooga, and my friend from Germany, Norbert Fuhrmann, stopped in. He was in the states on business, and I’m so glad he had time to come by and sit in with me! It’s always good to connect with friends from all over the world.

Norbert Fuhrmann with EG Kight Tropicana

From there I went on to Nashville to catch up with some old friends, make new ones, and get a new year of songwriting started! I’m hoping to spend more time in Nashville, meeting with industry folks, and writing and pitching my songs to some great artists there.

I enjoyed listening to Markey Blue and her band at Bourbon Street one night, and she invited me up to jam with her band. And I got to hear Stacy Mitchhart and his band the next night. I haven’t heard him in years, and he still puts on a great show! I ended up on stage with him, too, and he tore it up! I had a ball jammin’ with both of them.

I had forgotten how many amazing musicians there are in Nashville! I can’t wait to go back!

I’m getting into the songwriting mood and have started working on some new songs, and even though my latest album, A NEW DAY, is still getting quite a bit of airplay, it’s time to start thinking about songs for the next project. If you haven’t heard A NEW DAY yet, you can listen to some soundbytes and get the CD or downloads here. www.egkight.com/discography/day.html

There are some songs I really want you to hear that may help you, or someone you know, in some way. That’s what I intended when I wrote them – to lift people up. I hope it works!

I’m all geared up to go to Memphis in May with my Blue South Band for the Blues Music Awards. As most of you know, I’ve been nominated for the Koko Taylor Award. I feel like I’ve already won just having her name on the nomination and just knowing that the industry folks thought enough of me to include me on the list of nominations. May can’t get here soon enough. I can’t wait to see everybody!

I’ve been taking some new photos and I’ll be posting them soon. “Preaching Blues,” the book about Robert Johnson that has my photograph on the cover is out now. The day I got my copy of the book in the mail from the author, James Nuttall, was an exciting day for this Songbird! You can order the ebook on AmazonEG holding Preaching Blues book Nuttall
If you want to see some of my newer photos, you can check out my photography site here. www.EGKightPhotography.com

I’ll be at the Capitol Oyster Bar in Montgomery with my Blue South Band this Sunday, then it’s on to the Tropicana Room in Chattanooga, then to the Crimson Moon in Dahlonega. Then we’re doing a festival, then I have some more Alabama dates. This summer we’ll be in Port RoyalSouth Carolina, and we’re working on some Arkansas and Oklahoma dates, and some more in Indiana and Michigan. And in the fall, I’m excited to be playing the 2 Left Feet Festival in Connecticut for the first time! I’m really looking forward to heading up there and seeing that part of the country!

We’re constantly working on more tour dates, so keep checking back. It’s changing all the time. Click on the “Tour Dates” tab above.

Thanks again for your support and especially for believing in me. I hope to see you soon.  Until then….. Keep a song in your heart!

  • I performed at clubs, festivals, and theaters, several in new areas; did a couple of Blues in the Schools events; performed for more private events; did quite a few solo shows, got to do some shows with my incredible Blue South Band, and I joined Lisa Biales for several Peach Pickin’ Mamas shows. It was a GREAT year on the road!
  • A song I wrote with Tom Horner and Sunny Stephens aired on “The Fosters” on ABC Family.
  • I ended up in the top 5 “Best Blues Artists of 2014″! I’m in good company with Joe Bonamassa, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gary Clark Jr., and Eric Bibb. Read more about it here. http://www.axs.com/best-blues-artists-of-2014-35943.

I had a good Christmas and New Year’s Eve, takin’ it easy at home with family, friends and my pets. I’m so enjoying watching the baby goats jumping and running. They’re a sight to see. I’ve got a new page on my website dedicated to my goats, so you can check back regularly. Just click on the “Goat Report!”

A New Day is coming! A New Day is coming! And CD release parties are comin’ too!

Hey Everybody!

I’m so excited because I now have my new CDA NEW DAY – in my hot little hands! We’ve sent it out to radio, and the media are getting their copies as well. It will be released nationally on September 16th, and it’s already getting some great reviews!  You can read some of them under the REVIEWS tab above.
EG holding new album A NEW DAY

While I was in Nashville recently, I got to do something I’ve never done there before – sightseeing! I sure enjoyed soaking up so many areas of the city. And I took this photo from the pedestrian bridge. I sure love Nashville!

During that trip I also got to meet the artist who designed my last two album covers. I was thrilled to meet Cara Schneider, and she was just as genuinely sweet in person as she has been on the phone every time I’ve talked to her. Cara is the Art Director for the Nashville Opera, and she’s an incredibly inspiring designer. I’m so glad we got to visit and have some tea. Here’s a photo of us in her front yard.

EG and Cara Schneider 072414
I have some CD release parties coming up, and we’re gonna celebrate in a big way! We’ve confirmed one in Macon, GA on September 19th, one in Chattanooga, TN on October 4th and a couple in Ohio later on in October. Just keep an eye on my TOUR DATES, because we keep adding more!

My band and I tried some of the new songs out a few weeks ago in Tallahassee and they went over great.  The crowd seemed to love them. That sure makes a songwriter feel good. Our first set was live on the internet from Bradfordville Blues Club, and it was awesome!

And speaking of my band, we’ve FINALLY come up with the perfect name for these guys, who are like my brothers. They are now called the BLUE SOUTH BAND! We’ll be adding their photos and bios to my website, so you can know more about these amazingly talented players. I’d be lost without them, and I want you all to show ‘em some love the next time you see them! Check back soon to read their stories…

And while we were on stage at Bradfordville, we were being filmed to be part of a tourism video for Tallahassee. I think it turned out GREAT! See what you think. You’ll see us at the 2:13 markhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kguaD_P-Fts&list=UUDlZa0hPoPD3gjwRZrv9A6Q

You all know how I love to take pictures! I’ve taken some new ones recently, too, and I’ve updated my photography page.  Check it out at www.egkightphotography.com and let me know what you think.

I drove up to Hobart, IN near the end of July, and had the time of my life! It was a corporate event, for the owners of an oil company, and an apple orchard, among other businesses. I got to perform inside a huge barn, and the people I was entertaining were some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! They even took me on a golf cart tour of the apple orchard, and I sure wish my mama could have been with me. She loves apples! I so enjoyed spending the afternoon with the Luke Oil folks, and I can’t thank them enough for their hospitality. I look forward to coming back your way one day soon. Thanks to Dana, and Tom, Sr., and Ryan, and everyone else who made this event such fun!

You can pre-order my album now on my website, iTunes, and CD Baby, so you have a lot of choices! I can’t wait for you to hear it! Just click on the MUSIC tab above.

I’ll be in the north Georgia Mountains this Saturday, at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega. Then I have shows coming up in Indiana with Lisa Biales as the Peach Pickin’ Mamas, in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee with my Blue South Band, and as a solo in Ohio.

Keep an eye on my schedule, and I’ll be looking for you!  Until then, keep a song in your heart!

Billtown, Black Strat Blues, Lisa Biales nomination, my new CD is finished, and CD release parties!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Summer! Yea, it’s hot in Georgia. How is it where you are? I hope you had a good time on the 4th of July. What a great country we live in. We’re so lucky.

I had a wonderful time in Williamsport, Pennsylvania last month. Billtown Blues is one of my favorite festivals! I had a reunion with my northern band – Jeremy Jaffe, Tim Hooper, Sean Farley and Andy Seal – and they rocked it on stage at the festival. And my trip was made so much easier because of Roadie Jim Boose, and all of his hard work road managing. Thanks to all the guys!

At the festival I also got a chance to sing with a young teen band, The Black Strat Blues Company. It does my heart good to see young people playing music, especially when it’s the Blues. There are some great young players out there.

Black_Strat_Blues_Company(with Black Strat Blues Company at Billtown)

I’m proud to announce that the album Paul Hornsby and I produced this past year for Lisa Biales has been nominated for a Blues Blast Award! “Belle of the Blues” is up for Acoustic Album of the Year! We’re all so excited about it, and Lisa will be singing at the awards show. You can vote here: http://www.bluesblastmagazine.com/bbmas/vote/

And more good news! I couldn’t wait to tell you that I’m finished with the new CD! The title is “A New Day” and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. I have some CD release parties coming up, so keep an eye on my schedule. We’re adding dates all the time, and we’ve got offers coming in left and right. I hope to see YOU in your city soon!

EGTemplate

This Friday I’m at the Museum of Art in Knoxville with my band, then next week I’m performing solo for a private corporate team building event in Hobart, Indiana. On August 2nd my band and I return for a CD release party in Tallahassee at Bradfordville Blues Club. Then my boys and I will head to Port Royal, South Carolina for a Music in the Streets concert series. And in September, I’ll be doing a duo with Lisa Biales, as the “Peach Pickin’ Mamas” at Pruis Hall at Ball State University. I’ve got lots going on and it’s all good!

Whether it’s solo, with Lisa as a duo, or with my band, I love performing on stage! And I’m so grateful to all the fans who keep buying tickets and coming to the shows. Ellen Altamore even drove all the way from Michigan to see me at Billtown in Pennsylvania! And for every one of you who buys my CD’s, and emails me and sends me messages on facebook – your thoughts and encouragement, and your sweet comments keep me going!

Don’t forget to check the Tour Dates page, and mark your calendars for these upcoming events. Then you can bring all your friends and family and get your own copy of “A New Day”. Let’s celebrate y’all!

Until I see you, keep a song in your heart!

Another great BMA show, just finished up in the studio, my new camera, Billtown this weekend!

Hello Everybody!

I just wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on with the Songbird. I attended the Blues Music Awards in Memphis and as always, I had a natural ball. I got to be part of the VizzTone jam at the Rum Boogie on Beale, and talk about a good time! It was happening there!  I got to jam with Bob Margolin, using Little G Weavil‘s amazing guitar. It was an awesome evening!

EG and Bob Margolin at Rum Boogie 050714

And then the next night, it was the Blues Awards night, and what an outstanding show! I’ve made so many friends by attending the Blues Awards every year and it’s always like a family reunion when we all get together. I met up with my “Peach Pickin’ Mamas” partner, Lisa Biales, and she and I did some radio spots. We did a fun interview with Jesse Finkelstein for Blues Radio International. I’ll let you know when that show will air.

Lisa’s CD is doing great and I was happy to introduce her to some of my friends in the industry. Here I am at the BMA’s with some of my favorite people – Lisa Biales, Reba Russell, and Teeny Tucker.

BMA's - Lisa, EG, Reba Russell, Teeny Tucker

I’ve been working hard on my upcoming album. My band helped with the arrangements on several of the songs and played their butts off in the studio. I’m so proud of the way they put so much of themselves into these songs. The creative juices were really flowing!

EG recording in the studio May 2014

Here’s my band after a session in the studio – Paul Hornsby/engineer and producer, Gary Porter/drums, Mike Harrell/piano and organ, Ken Wynn/guitar, and Johnny Fountain/bass.  I love these guys!

And here’s Gary and his wife, Rhonda Porter. They helped me with background vocals, and she’s my soul sister!

It looks like the new CD, entitled “A New Day,” will be officially released in September. But I’ll have a few CD release parties prior to the national release. There will be one in Knoxville on July 18th, one in Chattanooga on July 19th, and another in Tallahassee on August 2nd. We’re working on several more, and we’re also in the process of booking some mini-tours in other states. I may be coming to your town, so just keep an eye on my schedule to see what’s going on. We’ll post the dates as soon as they’re contracted.

This coming Sunday, I’ll be performing at the Billtown Blues Festival in Hughesville, Pennsylvania. I’ll be joined on stage by my Northern Band, some great guys I used to play with some years back. I can’t wait to see them again, and all of my friends in Pennsylvania!

The goats are doing fine and I get such comfort from them when I get stressed. Here’s Sippie and me, enjoying a moment together.

I’ve also been enjoying my new camera. Here are a couple of photos I’ve taken lately. Can you tell I’m lovin’ it?!

Well, it’s back to work on the new CD. I need to get my part of the cover finished so we can wrap this baby up!

More awesome dates coming up! Variety is the spice of life!

It’s been a great month so far, and it’s not even half over! I’ve done a band show, several solo shows, had some great artists sit in with me, and even had a visual artist painting live on canvas during my show! One good thing about this music business – I never get bored!

I had a wonderful time in Ohio the first weekend in August. Getting to play the Cincinnati Blues Festival with my band was awesome, because they rock the house every time! And we were treated like royalty! A special thanks to my friend, Lisa Biales, for joining us on stage and backing me up. Thanks so much, too, to Nancy and Steve Broermann for looking after us all.

The next night I played a solo show in Columbus, at the Hey Hey Club, one of my favorite places. I had a large time having Lisa back on stage with me, and she and Long Tall Deb backed me up. Then I was off to Silverton to play a benefit for Women Writing For A Change. I enjoyed Raison d’Etre and Emily Ash sitting in with me. A huge Thanks goes out to Bev Bowers for always working endlessly to promote women in the arts.

While I was in Cincinnati, Alison and Dave Petrik presented me with a mug from the famous Rookwood Pottery, commissioned for a limited run for the Cincy Blues Society.

Before flying home, I went by the Rookwood Pottery plant and met the artist who designed it, Roy Robinson. Etched into the big blue mug is “Keeping Blues Alive”. I love it!

Last Saturday I had a blast with Heather Wilkerson at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega, Georgia. I had never done anything like that before, and it was fascinating! Heather painted, live on stage, as I performed.

She let the music influence her, and the end result was an awesome painting that she sold to someone in the audience. She’s one talented gal! And here’s her finished painting!

I have some more really fun stuff coming up, too. This Saturday I’ll have my band with me, and we’ll rock the house at Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee. And if you can’t make it to the show, the first set will be live on the internet on http://www.1061thepath.com. Listen in, and enjoy the show with us!

Then next Saturday I’m doing a house concert in a barn! That’s right! I’ll be in Eatonton, Georgia at the Crooked Pines Farm, doing a writer’s night in their barn with two other southern singer/songwriters – Kyrsta Nick and Tori Lee Averett. It’s gonna be a wonderful night of original music, and I can’t wait.

I’m working on some other interesting things too, but for now, y’all come see me. I’m always looking for your smiling faces looking back at me. And I appreciate each and every one of you!!

Keep a song in your heart!

EG
